Valley Supports Fresh Youth Initiatives

News | 10/3/2019

Wayne, N.J. – Thursday, October 3, 2019 – Valley has recently teamed up with Fresh Youth Initiatives (FYI), a nonprofit working to further the growth of low-income, immigrant, and first-generation youth in Washington Heights and Inwood. Valley’s involvement with the nonprofit has provided a grant to underwrite a new staffing position, Literacy Coach, to bolster their education program. Additionally, the Bank supported FYI’s participation in the Generosity Series 5K Run/Walk event to be held on November 5, 2019 in Riverside Park in Manhattan. All revenue from the event will be used as unrestricted funds for FYI programs.

Over the past five years, FYI has built a strong academic underpinning across programs to meet the language and literacy needs of participants. The candidate identified for this position, as well as most FYI staff, is from the community where FYI participants live and attend school. Hiring staff who connect with the culture and experiences of FYI’s youth is a key factor in delivering successful youth outcomes.

Fresh Youth Initiatives works with low-income, immigrant, and first-generation youth in Washington Heights and Inwood. Their principal goals are to assist children and teens to flourish in school; navigate life transitions; get on track for college and career; and give back to the community with compassion and care.
