Eleven Nassau County High School Winter Sports Student Athletes Recognized

WAYNE, N.J. (May 21, 2019) - Valley Bank today announced the first winners of the “Valley Money Play,” an award that recognizes high school student athletes throughout Nassau County in Long Island.  Eleven students, one from each of the Section VIII winter sports, were chosen as winners and received a $100 gift card and certificate of excellence.  The bank is a Gold Sponsor of the Section VIII Championship Games run by New York State’s Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA).

The Valley Money Play recognizes student athletes of Nassau County not only for their athletic accomplishments but also for demonstrating qualities, including passion for personal and team excellence and helping others. These are important lessons students learn by participating in high school team sports.  From the captain of the basketball team who volunteered his time with Hoops for All, an organization that helps children with Down Syndrome and Autism, to the many students nominated for being exemplary role models and mentors, the eleven Valley Money Play winners are inspirations to their fellow students and teammates.

“The nominations were filled with accolades about how these young students were devoted to their teammates and how they unselfishly helped others on their teams and in their communities,” said Patrick Pizzarelli, Executive Director of Section VIII Athletics.  “They  underscored how high school team sports can develop character, compassion and a commitment to excellence.”

The first Valley Money Play winners were chosen by the Athletic Council of the NYSPHSAA from nominations submitted throughout the winter sport season by Section VIII Athletic Directors and Coaches.  Each winner will receive a certificate of excellence and a $100 gift card from Valley.
