Valley Bank Honored with Foundation Community Commitment Award

News | 10/20/2020

Ira RobbinsWAYNE, NJ — Valley Bank was nationally recognized by the American Bankers Association Foundation for its Lake Martin Innovation Center with a 2020 ABA Foundation Community Commitment Award.  The award was given to Valley Bank for its efforts in the community and economic development category and will be presented during ABA’s Unconventional Convention on Oct. 20.

Valley Bank collaborated with the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce, Wildcat Entrepreneur Academy and Gateway Education Foundation to promote entrepreneurship, workforce development and economic inclusion through the Lake Martin Innovation Center. The Center is housed in a former Valley operations center and serves as a business incubator to 14 working individuals.

Entries were divided into seven categories including affordable housing, community and economic development, financial education, economic inclusion, protecting older Americans, supporting military families and volunteerism. Award winners were chosen by a field of nationally-recognized experts.

The selection committee chose the winning banks based on the creativity and thoughtfulness of programs — traditional or innovative in nature and structure — that embody the ideals of corporate social responsibility and demonstrate success in measurable terms.

“Valley Bank saw an opportunity to improve the lives of those in their community and took action,” said Corey Carlisle, executive director, ABA Foundation. “It’s Lake Martin Innovation Center made a meaningful difference in Alexander City, AL and we hope their work serves as a blue print for others throughout the industry.”

“At Valley, we’re always looking for innovative ways to help the communities we serve and make a difference,” said Bernadette Mueller, Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer. “We’re honored to accept this award for the Lake Martin Innovation Center.”
