Valley National Bank is a Champion of Big Brothers Big Sisters Bigs in Blue

Executives encourage law enforcement personnel to mentor youth
and help them reach their full potential

Newark, NJ, May 31, 2018 - This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Essex, Hudson and Union Counties (BBBS) celebrates its 10th Anniversary creating sustained high quality one-to-one mentoring relationships that will last a lifetime. "We are honored to welcome Valley National Bank as a new partner to bolster our Bigs in Blue program," said Carlos Lejnieks, BBBS President & CEO. "At this transformational time for our country no population is crying out for change more than our youth. With the arc of history bending once more towards justice we have an opportunity to erase the inequality that still plagues our inner city schools and heal the wounds left by gangs, crime and poverty. BBBS is engaged in this struggle working with our youth, one by one."

“When kids have role models to look up to they’re more likely to succeed in life,” said Ira Robbins, President & CEO of Valley National Bank. “What better role models than the men and women who help protect our local communities. We’re committed to creating a meaningful partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Essex, Hudson and Union Counties, and this $25,000 grant will provide more of the much needed matches for this great program. This initiative is consistent with Valley’s vision of supporting impactful and sustainable programs that strengthen communities by changing lives for the better.”

In addition to BBBS' core one-to-one match support, this partnership will concurrently launch a Bigs in Blue Club. This will give a platform to capture information from Officers who do not currently serve as mentors but express interest in supporting the program. In time,  the Bigs in Blue Club will serve as a platform to recruit the next phase of “Bigs in Blue” mentors.
